Racing Racing under ISAF Rules is organised all year round for yachts of all sizes under the North East Rating Rule (NERR) handicap system. Download the NERR handicaps here The RNYC programme typically includes: Passage races – up to 155 nautical miles to places such as Holy Island (Lindisfarne) and around the Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth. Tactical races – designed to test skill and judgement, with a choice of when to start and which direction to sail the course. Olympic races – set in Blyth Bay to suit the prevailing wind. Local races – courses around RNYC’s racing marks. Pursuit races – handicap starting, catch the boat ahead! It doesn’t stop there as yachts are laid up for the winter and fitted out again each spring. There is always something to do.
