Social The Social committee are a voluntary team. The ‘Pink Ladies’ aim is to create memorable functions, by providing various activities and events for our members. A main theme running throughout the events is of course Food and Drink and most of these are enjoyed aboard HY Tyne. January kicks the year off with Burns Supper: Traditional Haggis, Neaps and Tatties of course feature on the menu. A fun evening celebrating The Bard with traditional speeches and ‘Toasting the Haggis’ – and not forgetting, sampling the famous ‘wee dram’ April brings the Fitting Out Supper. The commodore informs us of all the exciting activities planned for the coming year, which could only be done whilst eating good food and drinking wine. July is a special month when the club hosts the Northumberland Yachting Plate in association with Coquet Yacht Club and Northumberland County Council – lots of social activities planned to coincide with our Clubs Quasquicentennial (125th Anniversary) including live music – and of course, not forgetting food and refreshments served by the pink ladies. September is the time for the Blyth Regatta – a weekend, during which there is always a great social calendar of events. October brings us to the end of the summer season and the Laying Up Supper. Our commodore ends the season past by giving a summary of club events whilst enjoying a 4 course meal. November is the annual dinner dance when we celebrate and award all the sailors who have been fortunate (or should that be skilled) to win races throughout the year. There will be other social events during the year, so please look out for notices on the website, on our Facebook page and also on posters posted on the clubship. Tickets are always in demand so don’t lose out and book as soon as the events are posted.
