HY Tyne Update Posted on 29th July 2014 by Mike Wade The shipwrights from T. Nielsen of Gloucester arrived yesterday and have set to removing bronze and copper pins and some planking to allow the surveyor to inspect the Hull. So far, I am pleased to say they have found nothing that we did not expect and the timbers remain in surprisingly good condition. They intend to heel the vessel on Thursday morning from the port side to expose the underwater sheathing removing sections to examine the timber and her fastenings. During this time, the vessel will be closed to everyone except the shipwrights and the surveyor. It should be returned to her normal position before the bar opens in the evening. The surveyor is here Wednesday and Thursday and I hope that this work will be concluded by the weekend although all fastening and timber panels have to be replaced for the winter whilst we complete stage 2 application.
