Festivals and Racing

Just a reminder that the Blyth Renewables Festival is taking place on the Blyth Quayside this weekend 29th & 30th June 2013. See http://www.blythrenewablesfestival.org.uk/ for more details.
The tall ship Stavros S Niarchos will be moored alongside the Dun Cow Quay for the event with an expected departure time of 1500 on Sunday 30th June.

All RNYC and visiting yachts are invited to take part in the Parade of Sail as the Stavros S Niarchos leaves the port en route for the first leg of the Tall Ships races in Denmark. More details of the parade of sail will be posted on the Club Ship on the day.

Club racing on Sunday 30th will consist of 2 back to back races, with the intention that one of them is a river race to provide a show of sail for those attending the Festival. The racing will be finished in time for all yachts to take part in the parade of sail.

The Club will have the RYA NE toppers for both this weekend and next, that of the Alnwick Rum Run. They will be used for ad hoc fun racing in the South Harbour but it is also hoped we can get half a dozen willing participants to do some racing around a short course up by the quayside on the river about 1100hrs & 1400hrs during the Saturday of the Renewables Festival. If you want to get involved in the topper racing on the river, please send me an email (to my email address on the RNYC web site contacts page) so we donÂ’t end up with either too many or too few persons.

Also – don’t forget that Friday night sees the start of our own mini Sail & Ale Festival where we have a selection of real ales with a nautical theme supplied by local breweries. Further information at http://www.rnyc.org.uk/social/sailandale13/index.html

I think thatÂ’s enough for now!
