We have had a number of situations where dinghies have been left attached to pontoons when users have departed their moorings to go sailing, making it difficult for any one else who requires to use them.
This is particularly the case on pontoon 'E' over by the timber Dolphin
Please refer to paragraph 20 of the Mooring Rules & Conditions, Page 14/15 in the Year Book.
'Trot dinghies must be returned to the catwalk before users sail from the harbour'.
We have also had instances where dinghies are not secured correctly and have drifted away from their mooring and become trapped underneath the timber jetties.
You must ensure that you securely tie the bow painter (rope) only, using either a bowline or a cleat hitch. Do not use the stern painter at all.
We have also observed that the timber dinghy which has just undergone an extensive refit including the addition of three new ribs, varnishing & antifoul has been beached on the rocky beach to the south of the moorings.
We prefer that any need for a dinghy on to the beach is satisfied using one of the fibreglass boats.
Please remember that these dinghies are for everyones use and consideration to fellow members must be extended.
Finally, can we also re-affirm the need to ensure both your bow and stern lines are as tight as possible when mooring to these walkways. We have recently had an incident when one boat had loosened to such an extent she was side on
to the pontoon in heavy winds and in danger of breaking free. Your boat security is your responsibility.
