Hi Everyone,
As part of the ongoing work to develop our Heritage Lottery Bid for our House Yacht preservation, we are looking for some volunteers to help us man a stall at Blyth Town Fair- Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 2013 from 10.00- 16.00 at Blyth Market Place.
This could be for a morning or an afternoon or just for a couple of hours. Whatever you can give will be a big support to us.
The purpose of this exercise is to have the opportunity for members of RNYC to engage with the local community and hopefully excite some of the members of the community to become involved with our Bid. This is such an important part of the heritage Lottery Fund requirement we discussed at the EGM held earlier this year. The Light Vessel History and her place in the Blyth maritime Community can be a hook to get talking to people. After all a third of her life has been spent in South Harbour
One of the ways to get talking to people is to ask if they know that there is a ship of national historic interest on South Harbour? and to tell them about the Clubhouse being a timber light vessel built in 1879 and how RNYC saved her from the breakers yard 60 years ago. Lots of people are fascinated to hear that she worked, as a floating lighthouse in all weathers & in the roughest of seas. When She served off Calshott Spit in Southampton Water, she probably probably waved goodbye to Titanic on her ill-fated last voyage. She also survived two World Wars stationed around the most heavily bombed coasts in the United Kingdom (Don't assume that people know that there were such things as floating light vessels!)
Once people know what we we were talking about we can give them one of the new information leaflets and tell them about the Heritage Lottery Fund project and If people seem keen,
we would like to inform them that RNYC intends setting up a Friends of the Light Vessel and invite them to leave their name + e-mail address for us to contact.
We really need to engage our local community which will enhance our chances of the Heritage Lottery Bid being a success.
