We have a tentative date for the new fence installation replacing the old Boatyard fence and the College yard fence as Monday 23rd September.
During this time we will also be clearing as much of the Marram grass from the perimeter as possible.
The new fence and gates will be a palisade construction similar to that around the fish processing plant and slightly higher than the present fence at 2.4 metres.
We will ask the Port & Reay Security to increase patrols during the night at this time as it is likely there will be weak spots in the fence, but in any event Boatyard users should do all they can to ensure that their property is as secure as possible and anything which could be used to assist a break-in is removed or disposed of. In particular, ladders should be securely locked away.
Please also help us by ensuring the area around your boat if it is parked on the beach side of the yard is as clear as possible to allow work to continue unimpeded.
It is likely we also take the opportunity with the new gates to provide snap lock padlocks to make it easier to lock the gates on exit. we will post further messages in this regard.
