In this section of the website you’ll find a number of pages covering the rich history of the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club, including information about the fascinating history of the Club’s house yacht, the Lightship LV50. The Friends of LV50 promote the heritage and preservation of the lightship LV50 and publish further historical information about the vessel. In Centenary Year 1990, the Commodore, Bruce Grant, wrote an ‘official history’ of the Club drawn from documentary sources including a previous history written for the 75th anniversary by Noni Garbutt, and from the recollections of members, notably W. Christie, J.C. Clark, R.M. Hardwich, J.A. Mills, and P.Q. Mitchell. That history, “The First Hundred Years“, was published in the Centenary Year Book and is available to read on this site.
A listing of past Flag Officers was produced in 1990 by the Hon. Sec Cyril Kling – and has been kept updated since.
The Islandshire Archives (a community archival group documenting the history of Holy Island and the adjacent mainland) also maintain a very interesting history of the Club’s relationship with Holy Island.
