Due to what seems to be a glitch in the emailing system I have only just received this information even though it appears to have been sent to me on 10th March. The email was sent by the daughter of George Batty and contained the following:
"I write to tell you the sad news that my father, George Batty, died peacefully in his sleep on 7th February, aged 98 years.
Being a member of the RNYC was a very important part of his life, and I know he was very proud and touched to be made an honorary member a few years ago".

At the time of his passing, George was the longest serving member of the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club. Having joined in 1934 he was a member for 79 years and until recently still made the trip north from his home in Devon to attend various events. When unable to travel due to failing health he enquired about resigning from the Club but was offered Honorary membership which he was delighted to accept. I know from having spoken to the nurses at the home where he was being cared for that he took great pleasure in having the articles from RNYC Signals read out to him.
Another chapter of RNYC history closes. I have replied to his daughter on behalf of RNYC
